Term 2 Southern SATIS Sport Grand Finals

It is that time of the year when rosters conclude with finals. Congratulations to the following Teams who have made finals:

• Boys’ 1st Soccer – GYC Gold

• Girls’ 1st Soccer – GYC Gold

• Girls’ 2nd Soccer – GYC Navy

• Girls’ 1st Netball – GYC Gold

• Girls’ 2nd Netball – GYC Yellow and GYC Blue

• Badminton Boys A – GYC Gold

• Badminton Boys B – GYC Red

• Boys’ 1st Volleyball – GYC Gold

Soccer

Our soccer teams have had a particularly successful year both in participation and performance. GYC finished as Minor Premiers in three of the four SATIS rosters: Boys’ Division 1, Girls’ Division 1, and Girls’ Division 2 (GYC Navy) — a tremendous achievement! The Boys’ Division 2 (GYC White) team also impressed, finishing third and narrowly missing a spot in the Grand Final.

Although the Boys’ 1st Gold Team didn’t secure a win in the Southern SATIS Grand Final, we are incredibly proud of their efforts and wish both girls’ teams the very best of luck in their upcoming finals this Thursday!

Netball

The Gold Team has reached the Division 1 Southern Grand Final, and an impressive seven out of our eleven Division 2 teams placed in the top eight — a testament to the strength and depth of our Netball program. We're excited to see what the finals will bring in the coming weeks!

Volleyball

Our four GYC Boys Volleyball teams have had a fantastic and enjoyable season in the Southern SATIS Division 1 roster. The Gold Team had a strong campaign, finishing second overall and now gearing up to compete in the Grand Final against Hutchins later this week.

State SATIS Representative Day

The SATIS Representative Day was held on Friday September 5 in Hobart, bringing together some of the most talented students from across Tasmania.

Final Results and Highlights:

• Girls Basketball: The North proved dominant, taking the win 101 – 50.

• Boys Basketball: A thrilling contest went right down to the wire, with the North edging out the South by just one point, 74 – 73.

• Girls Soccer: The South were strong defensively and clinical up front, securing a 2 – 0 victory over the North.

• Boys Soccer: The South controlled the match and converted their chances well, coming away with a solid 4 – 1 win.

• Girls Tennis: A tight contest that came down to the smallest of margins, with the South narrowly defeating the North 19 – 17.

• Boys Tennis: The South proved too strong, running out comfortable winners 26 – 10, but the North fought hard in every set.

Congratulations to the GYC students listed below who played for the Southern SATIS region at the SATIS Representative Gala Day in the following sports:

• Girls’ Soccer: Emma Christie, Zarah Mcleod, Piper Sullivan, Graciella Baez, Ariel Stephenson, Sarah Bolonja and Aaliyah Browning

• Boys’ Soccer: Ethan Leary, Patrick Mazimpaka, and Gael Flores

• Girls’ Basketball: Millie Richardson, Lindie Suliman, and Alemach Chide

• Boys’ Basketball: Lucas Norman, Connor Byers, Hamish Van de Kamp, Will Christie, Lachlan Symons and Jasper Hay.

Badminton

The GYC Gold team earned a place in the Grand Final against Hutchins. In Division 2, GYC Red will take on The Friends’ School.

Badminton Individual Championships

Congratulations to the twelve GYC students who represented the College at the Individual Championships held last Friday at the South Hobart Badminton Centre: Murdoch Lee, Dewas Poudel, Areach Magar, Rohan Mangar, Cheng-En Oakham, Jack Young, Ben Harrison, Daniel Mooney, Needhish Rawat, Maximilian Neale, Patrick Arthur, and Erin Rowlands.

All students competed with determination and displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. Some standout performances included:

• Erin Rowlands reaching the semi-finals in the girls singles.

• Areach Magar and Rohan Mangar progressing to the quarter-finals in the boys doubles.

• Areach Magar and Maximilian Neale advancing to Round 3 in the boys singles – with Max then facing teammate Daniel in the draw, so only one could go through.

A particular highlight was the success of Daniel Mooney, who won all three of his events: singles, boys doubles (partnering with Yaoming Zhou – Hutchins), and mixed doubles (partnering with Samia Kabalan – Collegiate).
