While the classroom remains a vital space for structured learning, critical thinking, and academic growth, much of our most meaningful learning happens beyond the walls. It’s in these moments that our students begin to develop the skills, values and perspectives that can shape their futures.

In Years 11 and 12, students are increasingly exposed to opportunities that stretch their learning in authentic, real-world contexts. Co-curricular involvement builds confidence, emotional intelligence and a sense of belonging. The suite of activities we offer at GYC through our DoSomething!@GYC program, cultivate self-discipline, initiative, team work and resilience – qualities that can’t be measured through ratings.

This is a time where students are learning about who they are, what they value and how they wish to contribute to the world. In an increasingly complex and dynamic society, GYC has recognised that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. For us, the whole college environment and the broader community act as a powerful and dynamic learning environment. Real Talk

In Studies of Religion 2 students will be participating in a presentation from Real Talk. Real talk provides relationships education based on Catholic Christian values providing up-to-date resources, presentations and programs on important topics. Students will experience the “Getting Real in the Digital World” seminar presented at the Hobart campus. Lines 2 and 3 will see the presentation on Wednesday 4 June, Lines 1,4, and 5 later in the year. Bus transport has been arranged for Glenorchy students, returning them to their home campus in time for their next lesson. Further details about this presentation were emailed to families late last week.

New Academic Research Leader of our Davis Centre!

We’re excited to announce that Daniel Purton is our new Academic Research Leader of our Davis Centre. The Davis Centre is the centralised hub of the College supporting students and staff in all their learning and teaching endeavours on both the Glenorchy and Hobart campuses.

Daniel is an experienced information and knowledge management professional, with a diverse background spanning the education, government, and private sectors. He holds postgraduate qualifications in communications, media studies, and information management. Daniel enjoys photography, cinema, gaming and music, including collecting books on these topics for his home library. Great to have you on board Daniel!

A big congratulations to the Boys’ team, who claimed the College Boys’ shield, with strong performances from: Luke Palmer (1st), Nikolai Middendorp-Costa (2nd), Brodie McIntyre (8th), Henry Forbes (11th), and Lucas Pursell (13th).

Well done also to the Girls’ Team, who helped GYC in sharing the College Co-Education shield with Friends! Special mentions to: Alet Le Grange (5th), Sarah Heinze (8th), Chloe Millar (19th), and Yakob Eldaleh (19th) - an incredible effort with all finishing in the top 20.

GYC Girls AFL Round 5

GYC made it 5 from 5 to comfortably qualify for next week’s Southern Final with a resounding 83-point win over Fahan. Phoebe Lazenby was voted best on ground. Millie Richardson was also dominant up forward and both girls also chipped in with two goals of their own. Matilda Kaye, Evie Bingham, Bree Wright and Caitlin Stevanovich all continued their recent run of form. Isabella Heroys, Eliza Garay, Amelia Milne and Lily McConnon were also amongst those who had an impact around the ground.
