Family Information Evening & Course Expo

Last Thursday 4 June, we staged our annual Family Information Evening & Course Expo at the Glenorchy campus.

The Course Expo is one of the important events on our calendar as we aim to attract Year 11 enrolments for 2027 and provide quality information and course advice to students and their parents. The Expo is a very professionally coordinated event featuring information sessions conducted in our theatre and faculty information booths covering the 120 courses on offer at GYC set up in the Bosco Centre.

The Expo has the following objectives:

1. Provide information to our current Year 11 students about courses to select next year.

2. Continuing our transition program for Year 10 students at our Associate Colleges (Mount Carmel College, Dominic College, Sacred Heart College and St James College) that will join us in 2027.

3. Provide information to Year 10 students, together with their parents, from a wide variety of different schools and colleges who will hopefully enrol with us next year.

Our professional staff ensured the event was an outstanding success with over 350 Year 10 students attending during the day. More than 450 people attended the evening information session.

If you or someone you know missed this event, don’t worry there is still time to enrol for 2027. We’d love to hear from you.

Mid Year Exams start on Wednesday 17 June

15 | Monday – Normal classes
16 | Tuesday – Study Day
17 | Wednesday – Exams start

Students should arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled start time. Students with extra time as part of their Reasonable Adjustments are reminded that the extra time is allocated at the start of the exam (for a two hour exam, extra time is 20 minutes).

This TASC document outlines what you can, and can’t bring into an exam.

Sick on Exam Day?

You need to contact the college office, and then see your doctor no more than seven days before the exam, or two days after the exam. Your doctor must complete the specific medical form in the Mid-Year Exam Guide. This mirrors the process that TASC requires at the end of the year. All students received a copy of this in their Homeroom class, and spares can be collected from the campus offices.

You will not be able to complete the exam at another time.

Hobart Schools Futsal Titles

On Monday June 1, GYC had six teams compete across the Boys’ and Girls’ College Divisions of the Hobart Schools Futsal Titles. All teams competed strongly throughout the day long tournament, with two teams standing out.

Congratulation to the GYC Girls’ Blue team which was crowned College Champions after defeating Hobart College 5-1 in a dominant display of skill, determination and teamwork.

The GYC Boys’ Blue team also performed well, reaching the Grand Final of the tournament, narrowly going down to The Friends’ School 5-4 in a thrilling contest. Both Teams will now compete in the State Futsal Champion of Champions on July 7.
