College Life

By now, I hope you are all aware that underpinned by love and respect, we value growth, connection and courage at Guilford Young College. Living up to these values is part of our Graduating Expectations and students have been working hard to meet these. We look forward to farewelling all our Year 12 students at the graduation ceremony in a few short weeks and celebrating their achievements.

As part of valuing individual growth, students are asked to participate in one of the many DoSomething!@GYC opportunities at the College. We have a proud sporting tradition, and it is fabulous to see so many of our students involved in sports, ranging from social rosters through to competing in state finals this week. However, there are so many opportunities beyond sport. You may read of the Edmund Rice Camps, Head 2 Heart program for at-risk children that several of our students facilitated last weekend.

It brings the staff of the College much joy to see the growth of our students as they participate in one of the many opportunities outside of the classroom. I am confident that the students I teach will remember their involvement in the DoSomething!@GYC program long after they have forgotten the lessons in my classroom.

Work Exposure in Government

Hayley Geeves and Colby Gustas have been selected to attend the Work Exposure in Government (WEX) Programme in Canberra during the school holidays.

They, along with around 40 other First Nations students, will participate in a range of programs to experience employment opportunities in government. They will spend some time at Parliament House working closely with senators, as well as visiting the Tent Embassy, War Memorial and a range of cultural activities. We wish them all the best!

Badminton

The Southern Badminton Finals also occurred with two GYC teams playing determinedly against each other in the Mixed Final with the GYC Orange Team involving Tommy Direen, Jess Bloor, Joey Cavanagh, Liam Lawler, Eleanor White and Nadia Cowle taking out the premiership.

Girls Soccer

In Division 2, recently in the Girls Soccer GYC Navy, coached by Mr Ramon Jacobs, played extremely well to defeat Friends in a close game 4-3. It was great seeing the development of the players over the two years with many of the girls new to the sport. This week, in the Girls 2nds Netball GYC Blue will contest the Southern Final against Dominic and in the soccer, GYC White will face Hutchins.

Term break Uniform Shop opening hours

The Uniform Shop will be open Friday October 11 during the term holidays but closed the other three regular trading days. Uniform Shop opening hours can always be found via the college calendar.

Our Theatre Performance class invite you their production of Arthur Miller’s iconic play The Crucible. Set in Massachusetts in 1692 during the Salem witch trials, The Crucible explores themes of blame, guilt and integrity which are just as relevant today.
