Reasonable Adjustments 2026Reasonable Adjustments may be provided by TASC for students with disabilities, medical conditions, impairments, or other circumstances in their external assessments for Level 3 and 4 courses. The application process for 2026 will open in April (date TBC). In preparation for these applications, please read this information from the TASC website. **Please note that students who have GYC Learning Plans which provide them with adjustments also need to apply TASC for Reasonable Adjustments for their external assessments. Adjustments included in Learning Plans do not automatically apply to external assessments. Reasonable Adjustment applications must be supported with evidence from medical professionals and specialists and explicitly include the adjustments being sought. If you haven’t already provided the College with supporting evidence, you may wish to book an appointment with your child’s specialist to gather this information. You can download a list of the possible adjustments for which students may apply. Additionally Current Year 12s who were approved for permanent ongoing adjustments in Year 11 do not need to reapply. Current Year 12s who had adjustments for 2025 only (non-permanent) will need to reapply. Students can check their Reasonable Adjustment email which was sent to them directly from TASC in 2025 to see if they have ongoing permanent adjustments.
More information on the Reasonable Adjustment Application process will be provided soon. 2026 Exam PeriodsStudent are expected to attend these scheduled exams for Level 3 and 4 courses as they are a necessary part of the assessment for the course. Family holiday/travel?TASC does not accept family holidays or travel as an accepted reason for not attending an exam, and are not eligible reasons for an alternate exam arrangement (such as a special exam centre or sitting the exam at a different time) or derived exam ratings. You are expected to have plans in place to attend the exams for Level 3 and 4 courses as scheduled in the exam timetable as they are a necessary part of your assessment for the course. This is also the college’s expectation for Mid-Year Exams. Travelling for a recognised event?If you need to travel interstate or overseas at the time of your exams due to being selected as a participant or official for a recognised National or International-level sporting, academic, or cultural event (that is sanctioned and organised by an official governing body), you need to make an application for a special exam centre before July 1 to complete your exam. Students completing Visual Art and Performance classes such as Theatre Performance and Dance can also expect to have set times during the Mid-Year exams where they need to attend an interview, or perform for assessment. Cancer Council Tasmania SurveyCancer Council Tasmania and the Department of Health, Tasmania are conducting a survey of secondary students’ experiences with tobacco, vapes, alcohol and other substances. This survey is conducted nationally every three years and coordinated by Cancer Council Victoria, with the support of the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care. The results of the survey will be used to inform and evaluate policies and programs aimed at reducing harms associated with adolescent use of these substances. Catholic Education Tasmania has approved the study and our college has agreed to take part. Students from across Australia will participate in the survey and our college was randomly selected to take part. Classroom teachers will conduct the questionnaire during Home Room time in the week beginning 6th April. You can find more information about the survey by clicking the link provided to them. Pedagogy NewsThe term ‘manosphere’ has recently gained considerable media coverage. It describes a network of online influencers, or ‘manfluences’ who advocate for the reassertion of patriarchal gender roles, primarily directed at boys and young men. The impact of the manosphere on parents and educators was a focus of the recent No to Violence National Conference in Hobart. Families who are interested in learning more about this issue may like to access a resource provided by Monash University An Introductory Guide to the Manosphere and the Impacts for Young People, Teacher and Schools. The College’s offering of the Tomorrow Man, Tomorrow Woman workshops last week has provided a valuable opportunity for Year 11 students to reflect on messages about gender and to build healthier, more respectful understandings of identity and relationships. Should students wish to talk through issues raised by the workshops, they are encouraged to speak to their Year Level Coordinators or to make an appointment with a College Counsellor.
