Every minute counts

As we pass the halfway mark of the academic year, it is an opportune time to reflect on the importance of regular attendance and engagement in education.

The Tasmanian Education Act 2016 requires parents and caregivers to ensure that children under the age of 18 attend school regularly and that the school is notified when they are unable to attend. If your child experiences a series of illnesses or has unexplained absences, the College will contact you to offer support and help them remain engaged in their education.

The University of Tasmania Schools Recommendation Program applications open on Thursday June 25. By applying through this program you can secure an early offer of a place at University before finishing Year 12.

The application process has two steps.

1. Firstly, you need to complete the application form on the University website, preferencing up to five courses (Medicine and Paramedicine are not included).

2. Secondly, students must complete the GYC Schools Recommendation Program student form which will provide us with the relevant information to complete our recommendation. Copies of these forms can be collected from campus offices, The Davis Centre, The Director of Curriculum’s office, or from the Daily Notices on CET Connect. Your application with the University is not completed until you have submitted your GYC form to the Director of Curriculum on your home campus. You also need to submit a copy of your Year 11 TASC Statement of Results, which were emailed and mailed by TASC in December.

Term Three Reports

Term Three reports will be released to students and parents in the first week of Term 3, with bookings opening for Parent Teacher Student Conferences on the final day of Term 2.

As we head into the final term of course work, this is a valuable opportunity for parents and students to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s progress and how they can ensure they are finishing the year strongly. In the lead up to this, we encourage all parents to regularly log in to your son or daughter’s CET Connect (our Learning Management System) profile to see recent results and to monitor upcoming and outstanding assessment tasks. Southern Final – Girls’ 1st Football

The GYC girls qualified for the final with a resounding 57-point win over Fahan in the Southern Final.

State Final – Girls’ 1st Football 🏆

After an impressive, hard-fought victory the Guilford Young College Girls’ AFL team retained the AFL Statewide SATIS Premiers title. The girls stood tall in a thrilling two point victory against St. Patrick’s College to earn the title as Tasmania’s best. The girls expressed their gratitude to inspirational coach Mackenzie Banks. Ollie Kelly, Jye Menzie and Mr. John Covington’s contributions were also very much appreciated by the team, as was Mr. Peter Di Venuto, who stepped up as the coach on the day and was instrumental in helping the girls win yet another title.

Cross Country – Tasmania All Schools Cross Country

Congratulations to the eleven students who proudly represented our college at the recent Tasmania All Schools Cross Country Championships.

A special congratulations to Nikolai Middendorp-Costa, who delivered an outstanding performance to finish 1st overall in the 6km (U20M) event with a remarkable time of 21:19. We would also like to recognise several other strong performances on the day:
