Every Minute Counts

As our students approach the end of their secondary school journey, it is timely to remind families of the importance of regular attendance.

Regular attendance is essential for students to reach their full potential. Being present for every school day and every class allows students to gain the most from their education, participate fully in the life of the College, and maintain strong connections with their teachers and peers.

When a student arrives late to class or takes extended breaks during lessons, they may miss up to 20 minutes of learning each day. Over the final two years of secondary school, this can add up to nearly four weeks of missed classes. Similarly, missing one full day of school each fortnight can result in the equivalent of eight weeks of missed classes by the end of Year 12.

We understand that there are occasions when circumstances prevent a student from attending school. We value our partnership with families and appreciate your support in helping your child make the most of their learning opportunities.

If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, or how this may apply to your child, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Home Room Teacher for support.

   Category 2: Open entry! Join with some friends! Compete for canteen vouchers to share with your co-stars!

Ordering your Leavers’ Jumper

1. Find your preferred size by trying on a sample jumper at your campus office.

2. Download the free Qkr! App, search for Guilford Young College and create a profile for yourself (parents can also order for students via the app).

3. Select ‘Year 12 Leavers’ Tops’ from the ‘payments’ options.

4. Enter the required details for name, size, Home Room, and name to be printed on your jumper. For more details see the post on CET Connect

5. Checkout to finalise and pay for your order. Leavers’ jumper cost is $75.

Last week during Home Room, students were introduced to the many exciting DoSomething!@GYC opportunities available this term. There is a wide range of activities on offer, providing students with the chance to explore new interests, develop skills and get involved in the life of the College.

Students are encouraged to register for an activity of their choice over the coming week and make the most of these opportunities.

GYC 1st XI Cricket

The GYC 1st XI has produced an outstanding season, finishing second on the ladder in the 2026 Statewide roster (out of eight teams) and earning their place in the State Final.

Leading the charge with the bat has been Hamish Beechey, who enjoyed a superb season, amassing 296 runs at an impressive average of 59.2. His reliability and composure at the crease have been a cornerstone of the team’s success. Strong support has come from Zac Pfitzner, Jonty De Cotter and Mason Wright, whose important contributions throughout the season have helped drive the team forward.

With the ball, Jonty De Cotter has spearheaded the attack, claiming an outstanding 16 wickets across the season. Hamish Beechey has also made a major impact with 13 wickets, while Zac Pfitzner has added 7 wickets, demonstrating the depth and strength of the team’s bowling unit.

After a fantastic season, the team now sets its sights on the State Final against Hutchins 1st XI, to be played at Hutchins on Friday 13 March. The boys will be eager to finish the season on a high and play well with the aim to bring home the title.

GYC Athletics – Southern SATIS Carnival

The GYC Athletics Team proudly represented the College at the Southern SATIS Carnival yesterday. It was a fantastic day of competition, led by our capable team captains Nick Chivers, Shaun White, Nikolai Costa, Alet Le Grange, Lacy Tilyard and Arielle Canell, whose leadership and encouragement set the tone for the day.

There were many impressive performances across the events, with numerous students achieving personal bests. In total, 29 athletes secured placings across 30 events.
