Excitement is building for the GYC 30 Year Anniversary Celebrations which are to be held in the latter part of the year.

As previously advised, there will be student focussed celebrations held on both campuses on Wednesday August 27 which will include an assembly, a ceremonial tree planting and the burial of a time capsule! Every student will be offered a commemorative cup cake, adorned with an edible 30 Year Anniversary logo, along with a badge to mark this most significant milestone in the College’s history.

At the Hobart campus, on Wednesday 3 September 2.30pm to 4.30pm, and at the Glenorchy Campus on Thursday 6 November from 4.00pm until 6.00pm, we will enjoy the company of invited guests, especially those who were integral to the formation of the College in the early years.

We will be conducting tours led by our Student Leaders and historical photo and memorabilia displays are planned for both campuses.

Amidst refreshments befitting this grand occasion, invited guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a video montage and be taken on a stroll down memory lane by listening to perspectives and recollections from our Interview panellists.

Whilst all the panellists are yet to be finalised, they will include a former student from 1995, Kristy Harback, former teachers from 1995, former Dean of Campus, Chris Smith, former Principal, Bobby Court and former Board Chair, Gary Baker.

A ceremonial cutting of the 30 Year Anniversary cake will take place, along with the opportunity to thumb through a coffee table style booklet which covers the past, present and future of Guilford Young College.

The Uniform Shop will close for the Term break

From Friday 4 July and reopening Wednesday 23 July.

You can download the Uniform Protocols and Price List via our website. The Uniform Shop is located on the Glenorchy campus. Opening hours can always be viewed via our online calendar.

Secondhand uniform can be purchased via the Facebook Group GYC Marketplace.

The Push-Up Challenge is all about the push for better mental health. At GYC we want to support the health of our participants, raise mental health awareness and contribute to interventions and prevention for depression, anxiety and suicide.

Term 2 Winter Sports Wrap-Up

Thank You to Our Supporters – A heartfelt thank you to all the staff, parents, and Alumni who have generously supported our Winter sports program. Your time, guidance, and encouragement have been invaluable in helping our students enjoy and succeed in their sporting pursuits.

Water Polo – GYC/SVC Team

The GYC/SVC Water Polo Team, coached by alumni Luke Johnson, delivered an impressive performance in the Semi Final. The game remained neck and neck until the final two minutes, reflecting the team’s resilience and competitive spirit. Although narrowly missing a Grand Final spot, the players should be incredibly proud of their efforts throughout the season.

Canoe Polo – Grand Finalists

The College Canoe Polo Team had an outstanding season, improving with every game. Their hard work and dedication were rewarded with a Semi Final victory and a place in the Grand Final. Coached and inspired by the experienced Mr Jeavons and Mrs Jane Stephenson, the team competed strongly and earned a well-deserved silver medal.

Congratulations to all players and coaches for their commitment and success this term. We look forward to more exciting sporting moments in Term 3!

Term 3 Sports – Registrations and Trials Underway

Term 3 is shaping up to be another exciting season of sport at GYC, with strong student interest across a wide range of activities. Trials and team selections are currently taking place during the final week of Term 2.

SATIS Intrastate Tournament – Nominations Open

The annual SATIS Intrastate Tournament will take place on Friday 5th September, featuring a series of exciting matches between Southern and Northern SATIS representative teams. Competitions will be held in Girls and Boys Basketball, Soccer, and Tennis at venues in the Hobart suburb of Warrane.

Nominations are now open for students in Years 9 to 12 who have represented the College in their chosen sport and participated in at least 50% of the regional roster this season.
