From the Principal

Welcome!

Welcome to all Year 11 and 12 families. A new year of possibility awaits. GYC is a place of opportunity, but it is also a place of high expectations. The College exists to prepare young people for life beyond school. This means we are committed to strong teaching, relevant pathways and meaningful learning experiences. It also means we will be clear and honest about what success requires. We expect students to attend regularly, prepared and on time, meet deadlines and engage respectfully with staff and peers. Attendance matters. Effort matters. Behaviour matters. Years 11 and 12 move quickly, and missed learning is difficult to recover. It is important that we have strong partnerships with all families as you play a crucial role in supporting these expectations.

At the same time, we know that your sons and daughters are navigating complex lives and competing pressures. We are committed to knowing students well, supporting their wellbeing and providing timely intervention when challenges arise. We communicate regularly with families and encourage you to stay connected with us – through our website and newsletters, by attending information sessions and reaching out early if concerns arise. Senior secondary education is not about perfection. It is about growth, resilience and learning to take responsibility for one’s future. Our role is to guide, challenge and support. Thank you for choosing GYC and for the trust you place in us.

CET Connect (Learning Management System)

Access for families to CET Connect our College Learning Management System will be rolled out early next week. The benefits of CET Connect are:

Secure access to report student absences
Convenient and ready access to student timetables, assessment due dates, grades and feedback.
Consistency of records and data meaning we’re better able to assist students and families.
A single Learning Management System across all Catholic Schools and Colleges.

Qkr! app

Qkr! is an easy way to process payments for the purchase of items such as;

Food from the canteen
Sports and some uniform items
School events and trips
Leavers’ hoodies
End of year Formal

Course Changes

An opportunity for course changes will occur on Tuesday 27 January between 12.30pm - 2.30pm at both the Hobart and Glenorchy campus.

Please note that many courses are already full and the College reserves the right to balance class sizes by moving student courses to other lines. Students are unable to select specific lines for their courses.

Reporting an Absence

In Term 1 absences will need to be communicated via our Learning Management System, CET Connect OR by contacting the school office directly. Information including how to access CET Connect will be provided next week.

Student First Day Back

First Day Back is Friday 6 February.

College Photo Day

College Photo Day is Tuesday 10 February. All students will have an individual photo taken. Full formal school uniform is required, including the navy blue knit jumper.

Davis Centre E-safety at GYC

We have a program of activities planned for 2026 to help students stay safe online and promote positive online behaviour. Parents and family members can learn more about supporting young people online with these resources from the e-Safety Commissioner website:
