Farewell Year 12!

As we approach the end of this significant chapter, it’s time to celebrate the hard work, growth, and achievements of our Year 12 students. The final two years of your education have been filled with both challenges and triumphs, and each of you should feel proud of the dedication, resilience, and perseverance you’ve shown.

Reflecting on the past two years at GYC, we remember not only the academic milestones but also the friendships and memories that have made this journey so special. From exams and assignments to sports, arts, and school events, every moment has shaped who you are today and prepared you for the path ahead. As you move forward, remember that these experiences have equipped you with valuable skills – skills that will support you in your next steps, whether in higher education, vocational pursuits, or entering the workforce.

To our teachers, parents, and guardians, thank you for the encouragement, patience, and support you’ve given along the way. This journey has been a collective effort, and your guidance has been instrumental in shaping the bright futures of our students.

For our Year 12 students, while this is a farewell, it is also a new beginning. Embrace the future with courage and curiosity. Believe in your abilities, continue to learn, and remember that challenges are stepping stones to success. We are proud of who you’ve become, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact you’ll make in the world.

Donate your old GYC uniform!

We are hoping to populate a cupboard of spare uniform. Everything and anything in a variety of sizes, as long as it’s in good used condition can be dropped off at either campus office up until Monday December 16.

Exam Timetable and Study tips

The exam timetable can be found via the TASC website. All exams are held on the student’s home campus, (eg. if a Glenorchy student studies Accounting 3 at the Hobart campus, their exam will be at Glenorchy campus). Students with written exams should double check their Pink Slip (Notice of Enrolment) to check the location campus for their exams.

Be aware of the exam starting time, and make sure you make allowances for travel time. Aim to be on campus at least 20 minutes before the scheduled start time. For students who have extra time as part of their TASC Reasonable Adjustments, the extra time is allocated before the scheduled start time. If students or parents have any questions about this, please contact your campus office.

All the information about what you can and can’t bring into an exam is listed in the TASC Exam Guide. TASC has lots of other helpful resources to guide students in developing effective and healthy study habits, and prepare for their exams.

Pink Slips

All students should have their Notice of External Assessment (known as a pink slip) and have checked that the information is correct. These important documents need to be brought to each exam. If they are misplaced, a replacement copy can be obtained from the campus office.

What to do if you are sick on your exam day

If a student is too sick to sit their exam, or they become unwell during the exam, there are important steps you need to take. The TASC Exam Guide, outlines these steps and includes a medical certificate your doctor must complete.

Faith and Mission

Breakfast Club

We celebrated the end of the academic year with a festive feel for the final Breakfast Club. A big thanks to all the VET Hospitality crew, staff and particularly Mr Dooley (for his pancakes) for ending the year in culinary style.

Just Act Committee

Our Just Act Committees celebrated a huge number of initiatives this year. These included the Head to Heart experience with Edmund Rice, three Dining With Friends experiences, 800 plus items donated to the Winter Woollies Appeal, and fundraising for Vinnies, Catholic Mission and Caritas. Well done!

Volunteering Opportunity

The Cancer Council are asking for students who wish to volunteer their time to assist at their annual Gala event on November 23. To take up this opportunity please contact them directly. This would contribute to a student’s DoSomething!@GYC for 2025.

Walking the Labyrinth

All Year 11 Religious Education classes also learnt about the long history of labyrinths in Christian and pre-Christian history and walked a canvas version as a mindfulness and meditation activity with Catholic Education Tasmania education officer Mrs Leanne Prichard. This followed on from her earlier talks on the place of pilgrimages in Christianity. For those students interested there is Tasmania’s own and becoming increasingly popular Walk to St James pilgrimage in the school holidays.
