From the Principal

Welcome to Term 4!

Welcome to Term 4 – the final and often most significant stage of our school year. For our Year 12 students, the next weeks not only mark the culmination of their past two years at GYC, but the years of learning and growth they experienced since Kinder.

As classes conclude and assessments are finalised, I am incredibly proud of how so many of them have approached this important period, with commitment and determination. I look forward to celebrating their time with us at our Graduation ceremonies in December. For our Year 11 students, this term is equally important as they consolidate their learning and begin to look ahead to the challenges and opportunities of Year 12. The habits, mindsets and commitment that many of them have established will set them up for success in the year ahead. Term 4 brings a sense of energy and purpose across the College, as we finish the year well and celebrate our successes, of which there are many.

External Exams

The Tasmanian Assessment, Standards & Certification (TASC) External Exams are fast approaching! Now is the time for students to focus on their exam preparation, and develop a study schedule. While we encourage a balance between study, socialising, sport and part-time work, students should be prioritising their study to ensure they can feel proud of their final results, and know that they have done their best. Exams can be a stressful time, and the best way to combat this is by being well prepared! TASC has some excellent resources for getting organised. For help in preparing for exams, the best place to start is always with your class teacher – they are the experts, and they are there to help you!

In the coming days, all students will receive the TASC Exam Guide, an important document with essential information about how to prepare, what you can bring into the exams, and what to do if you are sick (please note there are important processes that need to be followed regarding medical certificates, or they may not be accepted by TASC). Parents are encouraged to view a digital version of the document. You can also download the exam timetable. Students with Reasonable Adjustments have been emailed the details of these by TASC.

Another important document students will receive in the coming days is their Notice of Assessment, colloquially known as the ‘pink slip.’ This lists each student’s external exams, and the location at which they will sit the exams. It’s very important that students check these very carefully, and notify their Director of Curriculum if there are any inaccuracies. Students need to bring their pink slip to every exam. If they forget it, or lose it, they must go to the campus office immediately.

Final Internal Assessment

As students complete their last assessment tasks, they will be given their final internal ratings, and will have the opportunity to request a review if they feel there has been an error. Final ratings will be made available on CET Connect, and students will be sent a confirmation email, where they can request a review, if there is a potential error. This email will outline the process and deadlines. Applying for a review is a serious request and will be investigated by the Director of Curriculum. Students will need to provide a detailed explanation, with supporting evidence to allow the Director of Curriculum to investigate the concern. Queries need to be based on an inaccuracy against the internal assessment rule, rather than disappointment over the final ratings. Students must speak with their teacher before requesting a review.

Due to circumstances beyond our control the Uniform Shop run by Perm-a-pleat Schoolwear recently made the decision to consolidate all their school uniform outlets into a single, oﬀsite location. Effective immediately the Uniform shop on the Glenorchy campus is now closed.

The new location will be Unit 1, 46 Mornington Road, Mornington. This new location will provide a more spacious and dedicated retail environment, expanded opening hours, improved parking and enhanced accessibility for families.

The new shop will re-open from Wednesday 29 October with revised and expanded opening hours.

2026 Term dates for GYC students have been finalised and are now available for download. Our electronic public calendar is always up to date and further dates and information will be added to it as they become available.

GYC College Alumni are warmly invited to attend our 30 Year Anniversary Celebration on the Glenorchy campus. We’ll gather in the Don Bosco Creative Arts Centre for a Principal’s address, interview panel, video montage, cake cutting, and campus tour. Drinks and nibbles all provided. We’d love to see you there.

Visitors and families are also welcome to view the Exhibition on November 10, 11, 17 & 18 in the Arts Precinct on the Glenorchy Campus from 9.00am to 3.00pm daily.

The GYC Ski Trip to Mount Hotham returns in 2026!

Following the incredible success of our previous trip, Guilford Young College is thrilled to announce that the much-anticipated Snow Ski/Snowboard Trip to Mount Hotham will be returning in 2026!

Southern College Triathlon

Entries due this Thursday 16 October. The event will be held at Bellerive Beach Thursday 27 November.

Individual Event Requirements/Distances: Swim (250m), Ride (9.5km) & Run (3km).

Team Event Requirements/Distances: (2-3 competitors required): Swim (400m), Ride (12km) & Run (4km).
The College will coordinate team entries.

Term 3 Sport

In Term 3, the College had four teams competing in State Finals: Girls’ 1st Netball, Girls’ 1st Soccer, Girls’ 1st Volleyball, and the Boys’ 1st Volleyball team.

The Netball and Volleyball girls' teams were both young and relatively inexperienced but showed great determination against strong opposition—St Patrick’s College in Netball and Launceston Christian School in Volleyball.

The Girls’ Soccer Team travelled to Devonport to face St Brendan-Shaw College and with some outstanding passes and possession continued their season-long dominance with an impressive 3–1 win.

The final State Final appearance came from the Boys’ 1st Volleyball team in Launceston, also against Launceston Christian School. The GYC boys narrowly lost the first set 28–26, but they bounced back to win the next three sets 25–22, 25–18, and 25–18, securing a well-deserved victory.

GYC Sport Overview

As the 2025 school sport season comes to a close, we celebrate an incredible year of achievement, teamwork, and GYC spirit across all competitions. From weekly rosters to SSATIS and SATIS finals and events, our students have represented the College with great pride and passion.
