Hello Craig,
Trust you have had a good week.
As you may remember, on Friday December 4 we (Brendan, Jenny Noble and I ) are organising all this year’s grade 7-9 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Catholic Colleges to come and have a “taster” day at GYC- Hobart Campus.
I am happy to say that Aunty Verna Nichols has agreed to come and give a Welcome to Country to start the day and are, in train, with gaining permission for the naming of the day in palawa kani from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre.
Can I please ask that this date is confirmed in your calendar also, as we would very much like for you to give a talk to the students about GYC before they start their taster sessions…First Nations course, Aboriginal Fire techniques (Science), Drama and Sports Science with some of your teachers.
At the moment we have Nala Mansell from Riawanna and Hollie French from Karadi Aboriginal corporation who will ensure students receive information about their services.
Here is a possible schedule for the day:
10:00 am – Welcome to Country- Aunty Verna Nichols
Craig Deayton – Talk to all the students
Past students – motivational stories/journeys
Riawanna – talk about the opportunities and help they can provide
10:45 – 11:25 Session One
11:30 – 12:10 Session Two
12:10 – 12:45 BBQ Lunch/ Deadly Choices program- Karadi
12:50 – 1:30 Session 3
1:35 Farewell
1:45 Leave
Can you please reply by email that you are available on the day and happy for this program to run at GYC- Hobart Campus.
Warm regards,
Sarah
