The boys’ SSATIS final for football (soccer) was played out in front of a healthy crowd at South Oval, The Hutchins School, between the GYC First XI and THS on Thursday 16 August.

Affording Hutchins the home ground and home crowd advantage, the GYC boys backed-in their high, skill-based game, centred around co-captains Samuel Hills and Kyle Vincent, the deft, silky touches of Eduardo Castaneda, and the tough, unrelenting defensive effort of Jake Pullen, Noah Smithies-Sharples, Mitchell Harris and Bradley Lakoseljac.

By the end of a tight, sea-sawing first half, the teams were locked at 2 goals each.

Despite a decaying pitch surface, GYC controlled the second half and found a way through the Hutchins defense, racing to 4-2.

Despite another defensive lapse which gifted Hutchins a third goal in the dying minutes, GYC ended as worthy victors in a hard fought tussle befitting a final.

GYC goals were scored by Kyle Vincent (2), Jacob Bygraves and Mason Attfield.

GYC will now attempt to regain the SATIS title (lost last year in devastating fashion in the dying minutes of the game) when the team contests the SATIS final against the yet-to-be-determined Northern Premiers, in Hobart on Wednesday 26 September.

Special thanks to team manager Chris Hoare and director of College sport Zain Wright.

(editor’s note:  GYC has now won four SSATIS titles in the last four years and six in seven year under Mr Guerzoni’s coaching.)

SATIS FINAL, Wednesday 26 September, Hobart.

Venue to be confirmed; however, it could be the GYC Glenorchy Campus oval.
