Guilford Young College was represented at the inaugural gathering of the national VET alumni in Canberra at the end of November.
Director of the Southern Tasmanian Catholic Colleges Trade Training Centre Penny Driessen, GYC Manager of Vocational Education and Learning Jane Milburn and Hospitality teacher Stephen Lunn were among more than 140 of Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) Alumni, at the inaugural National VET Alumni Information Workshop on 26 and 27 November.
GYC, as RTO and lead school for the STCCTTC, had joined the alumni on 23 November when STCCTTC was announced the winner of the Australian Training Awards Schools Pathway in VET Award for 2017. Mr Lunn was the national VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year in 2015 having won the State title earlier in the year.
The workshop provided the alumni with the opportunity to learn more about the direction and key messages of the Australian Government’s Real skills for real careers strategy as well as hear from each other’s own inspirational stories, gain media and presentation skills and workshop ideas to build an even stronger VET Alumni program.
