Principal_2017_009As we end the year and prepare to celebrate Christmas with family and friends, I

thank all parents for your support of our mission,

congratulate all students on your work and contributions to Guilford Young College this year and

offer my sincere appreciation to all our hard-working staff without whom our many and notable achievements across so many fields of endeavours would not be possible.

May Christ keep you and bless you this Christmas.

Craig Deayton, Principal

Although the Guilford Young College community extends into all the Catholic parishes in southern Tasmania, the College is blessed to have two “home” parishes; the Cathedral Parish for the Hobart Campus and the Glenorchy Parish for the Glenorchy Parish.  Fr Emmanuel Ibeke (Cathedral) and fr Lawrie Moate SDB (Glenorchy) offered a Christmas message each.  Shortened versions were printed in the Term Four GYC Newsletter on page 16. There is the full text of each:

GYC helps spread Christmas spirit

p17 Christmas hamper_5311Guilford Young College had the privilege of inaugurating an initiative of the St Vincent de Paul Society in preparation for this Christmas.

Instead of a general donation drive, each Campus was given the profile of a specific family in need. Generous hampers of food and toys from the Glenorchy Campus were handed to the St Dominic SVdP Conference on the last day of school.

As part of the donation, students from Food and Cooking Essentials classes made mini Christmas puddings, rocky road, mini meringues and truffles which were also given to St Vincent de Paul.

Also as part of GYC’s contribution to a better Christmas for others, members of the Pastoral Team and several of the 2018 student leaders helped prepare for the Dining with Friends Christmas celebration at StVdP’s Mather’s House.

Ultimately, only eyes of faith allow us to see the fullness of God’s revelation. The glory of the infant king is the very presence of God made flesh. Jesus is the eternal incarnate Word who has pitched his tent among us. Ours is not a distant God; the incarnate wisdom of God is among us, and we are called to a change of heart that will allow us to see this wonder.
