Wonderful energy and excitement emanated from the Glenorchy PAC when the Footloose sitzprobe  was held on Saturday afternoon.

Sitzprobe?  You may well ask!  The sitzprobe (from German, meaning seated rehearsal) is when the cast and the musicians come together for the first time. The focus is on bringing these two critical elements together.

It is a time to introduce the actors to the musicians. In this case seven wonderfully talented musicians under the baton of Mr Matthew Ives. It is the first time that the cast hears the full orchestration that will underpin the show.

And it is the first time for the musicians to hear the voices for whom they will be playing.

It is a rehearsal which focuses solely on songs, music and accompanying dialogue. There are no staging or other production elements.

From an outsider’s perspective, the excitement and enthusiasm were palpable from the outset. As the rehearsal unfolded, the eagerness grew.  The live music sounded inviting and upbeat and the young actors responded to it with enjoyment and pleasure.

The next milestone will be when the production moves from the PAC to the stage itself in the Don Bosco Creative Arts Centre. And that’s not all that far away.
