After a thrilling and skillful game that went into extra time, the GYC Netball Firsts have regained the SSATIS netball title from arch rivals, St Mary’s College.
After a flier of a start that saw GYC take a 10-point lead into the first break, St Mary’s College determinedly pegged back the lead until they got in front well into the match.
After an almost goal-for-goal tussle in which neither team was able to break away, the score on the full-time siren was 42-42.
In two six-minute periods of extra time, GYC, scoring first, showed disciplined control to hold off St Mary’s 57-51, to bring the trophy home for the first time in four years.
GYC will now contest the SATIS final in Hobart in September.
